SINGAPORE — The Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) has officially opened its representative office in Singapore, marking a key step in its strategy to expand its global footprint and deepen technology cooperation between the two countries.

The new office is expected to strengthen collaboration in high-tech industries, aerospace, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and innovation, while enabling Viettel to integrate more deeply into global value chains and access advanced international standards.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Senior Lieutenant General Hoàng Xuân Chiến, member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission and Deputy Minister of National Defence; the Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore; representatives of Singapore’s Ministry of Defence and other agencies; and numerous technology partners and international organisations.

Speaking at the event, Chiến said the establishment of the office reflected Viettel’s determination to expand international cooperation.

“Viettel’s presence in Singapore demonstrates its commitment to joining global value chains, accessing modern standards and strengthening partnerships with leading strategic players in core technologies and high-tech industries,” he said.

He added that Việt Nam’s Ministry of National Defence would continue supporting Viettel’s international expansion on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and respect for international law, while expressing hope that Singaporean authorities would facilitate the effective operation of the office as a bridge for technology, investment and innovation ties.

Cao Anh Sơn, Viettel’s deputy general director, said the group entered Singapore with a long-term vision.

“We are committed to respecting Singapore’s laws, culture and standards, promoting transparent and mutually beneficial cooperation, and investing in technology, people and innovation to create sustainable value,” he said.

According to Viettel, the office will serve as a strategic hub within its global ecosystem, focusing on strengthening digital infrastructure connectivity, expanding national-scale digital transformation solutions, promoting research and high-tech industry development, nurturing skilled technology talent and enhancing international technology cooperation.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Trần Phước Anh said the presence of major Vietnamese technology firms such as Viettel would help elevate bilateral relations from trade and investment to deeper cooperation in technology, innovation and future industries.

On the occasion, Viettel also signed cooperation agreements with leading partners including ST Engineering, Honeywell International Inc., Airbus, China Unicom, Truvisor, Jinsheng Henxing, Aeronautics and Commvault Systems. The partnerships cover public security, cybersecurity, aerospace, data connectivity, AI-driven automation, telecommunications, IT and cloud computing, strengthening Viettel’s capabilities and global integration. — VNS
