HÀ NỘI — National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on July 9 marked a key milestone in its 30-year development journey by welcoming its 350 millionth passenger on a flight from Hà Nội to Huế.

The ceremony took place at Phú Bài International Airport, coinciding with the 65th anniversary of Việt Nam’s tourism sector and the Visit Việt Nam Year - Huế 2025. The flight was greeted with a water salute, a gesture reserved for notable aviation events.

At the ceremony, the 350 millionth passenger was awarded a Platinum Lotusmiles card, two round-trip domestic Business Class tickets, and souvenirs. Ten lucky passengers, from the 349,999,995th to the 350,000,005th, received round-trip domestic Economy Class tickets. All passengers on the flight were given gifts featuring the Vietnam Airlines brand and embodying the cultural identity of Huế — a warm greeting from the former imperial capital.

This event is among the highlights of Vietnam Airlines’ 30th anniversary activities, reaffirming its role in boosting regional connectivity, tourism, and trade.

On this occasion, the national carrier, in collaboration with the Huế city People's Committee, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism and the municipal Department of Tourism, also launched a promotional programme titled “Magical Huế Night – Discover to Love,” offering domestic and international visitors arriving on night flights to Huế special incentives, including accommodation discounts of up to 80 per cent.

Over the past three decades, Vietnam Airlines has operated 1.2 million round-trip flights, covering 3.04 billion kilometres, and serving 350 million passengers with an average annual growth of 19 per cent.

The airline has also transported 4.7 million tonnes of cargo and expanded its global network to over 1,000 destinations via the SkyTeam alliance.

Having fully recovered from the pandemic, Vietnam Airlines continues to expand international routes, with new service to Copenhagen slated for December, following those to Munich, Milan, Melbourne and Perth.

It aims to further strengthen its global presence through network expansion, service upgrades, and sustainable development initiatives, positioning itself as a culturally distinctive Vietnamese brand on the world aviation map. — VNS
