TikTok plans to expand its presence in Việt Nam by shifting parts of its operations to a domestic enterprise model, a move backed by authorities as the country seeks to attract more investment in the digital economy and advanced technologies.
HÀ NỘI — Director of TikTok Việt Nam Nguyễn Lâm Thanh has expressed interest in investing in Việt Nam's logistics, digital finance and the Việt Nam International Financial Centre (VIFC).
Thanh said TikTok has become a major player in Việt Nam’s digital economy after seven years in the market, with users spending around 100 million hours a day on the platform.
TikTok’s ecosystem now includes more than 30 million CapCut users, 500,000 advertisers, 500,000 TikTok Shop merchants and about six million content creators earning income through the platform.
Thanh said TikTok is gradually shifting parts of its operations in Việt Nam from a cross-border model to a domestic enterprise model, with plans to establish local legal entities, including in e-commerce, to strengthen coordination with regulators.
The move comes as the platform handles nearly 2–3 billion e-invoices and almost three billion orders annually, and is expected to improve data infrastructure, transparency and regulatory oversight.
Deputy Minister of Finance Cao Anh Tuấn said TikTok has become an important part of Việt Nam’s digital economy, serving as a platform for content creation, social interaction and e-commerce.
He said the Government is improving the legal framework and business environment while promoting policies to attract investment in artificial intelligence, big data, data centres and e-commerce.
Tuấn added that growing Việt Nam–China cooperation in areas such as investment, science and technology, and digital transformation would create favourable conditions for technology firms to expand in the country.
He underscored TikTok’s role in helping small and medium enterprises, household businesses, solo entrepreneurs, content creators and young founders tap new digital business models.
Tuấn said Việt Nam has strong potential to become a regional hub for innovation and the digital economy, citing its population of more than 100 million, young workforce, rapid technology adoption and stable business environment.
He welcomed TikTok’s plans to transition to a domestic enterprise model, saying regulations on invoicing, documentation and tax obligations are already in place and that tax authorities can support the company’s data connectivity needs.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to maintaining a transparent and business-friendly investment environment for technology firms and digital platforms.— VNA/BIZHUB
