Following a successful trial period, the service is now available on a regular basis, allowing passengers to stay connected throughout their journey for messaging, web browsing, email and image sharing.
HÀ NỘI — Vietnam Airlines has officially launched its in-flight internet service from the beginning of this year, marking a significant step in enhancing passenger experience and advancing the national carrier’s ambition to achieve five-star airline status.
Following a successful trial period, the service is now available on a regular basis, allowing passengers to stay connected throughout their journey for messaging, web browsing, email and image sharing.
The trial, conducted from August 2025 on selected international and domestic routes operated by Airbus A350 aircraft, saw more than 70,000 passengers experience the service. Customer feedback was largely positive, with many noting stable connection speeds and reliable performance for common online activities during flights.
Vietnam Airlines currently offers three data packages on international routes: a US$5 package for unlimited messaging during the flight, a $10 package for one hour of web browsing and a $20 package providing unlimited internet access for the entire journey. From now until March 31, Business Class passengers can enjoy complimentary in-flight internet, while all passengers are entitled to 15 minutes of free messaging.
The airline said the service will be rolled out on domestic flights once payment solutions are fully standardised in the Vietnamese market.
At present, eight Airbus A350 aircraft have been equipped with in-flight internet systems. Vietnam Airlines plans to complete installation across its entire A350 fleet in 2026, before expanding the service to other aircraft types, including the Boeing 787 and Airbus A321.
In-flight connectivity has become increasingly common among major airlines worldwide and is considered a key criterion for carriers aspiring to five-star standards. It is also an important factor in the rating systems of organisations such as Skytrax, APEX and AirlineRatings, which place strong emphasis on passenger experience and service modernisation.
Vietnam Airlines Deputy General Director Đặng Anh Tuấn said that maintaining seamless connectivity throughout flights has become an essential requirement in modern aviation.
“In-flight internet will enhance the travel experience and support Vietnam Airlines’ goal of becoming a five-star international airline by 2030,” he said.
To mark the official launch, the airline has partnered with Space Speakers to debut a music track titled 'Connection' at an altitude of 10,000 metres, highlighting its pioneering spirit and mission to connect Việt Nam with the world.
The service is powered by infrastructure developed with VNPT and connected via the US-based Viasat satellite system, ensuring stable and secure internet access during flights. — VNS
