UNIQLO, on October 15, announced a donation of VNĐ1 billion and 3,400 clothing items through its RE.UNIQLO programme to support recovery efforts following severe floods in Northern and Central Việt Nam.
HCM CITY — UNIQLO, the global apparel retailer from Japan, on October 15, announced a donation of VNĐ1 billion and 3,400 clothing items through its RE.UNIQLO programme to support recovery efforts following severe floods in Northern and Central Việt Nam.
The donation has been made to the Hope Foundation, which will carry out post-disaster reconstruction activities such as repairing school facilities and providing essential equipment to educational institutions heavily affected by the recent storms.
Between September and October this year, three consecutive typhoons caused extensive damage across several regions, particularly in mountainous and coastal areas of North Central Việt Nam. Many schools suffered roof collapses, flooding, and serious infrastructure damage, disrupting teaching and learning.
Naoki Akiyama, CEO of UNIQLO Vietnam, shared: “In the wake of the recent natural disasters, UNIQLO wishes to extend timely support and compassion, especially to children - the most vulnerable group. Through this collaboration with the Hope Foundation, we hope to help rebuild safe learning environments, enabling students to return to school and continue nurturing their dreams. This initiative is also an important part of UNIQLO’s long-term commitment to contributing to the people and society of Việt Nam.”
Nguyễn Xuân Tú, Executive Director of the Hope Foundation, said: “We deeply appreciate UNIQLO’s spirit of sharing and its long-term commitment to supporting Vietnamese children. Each reconstructed facility and every donated item represent a message of care and responsibility. In the most difficult times, UNIQLO’s timely presence has reignited hope in schools once devastated by storms.”
Since 2021, the RE.UNIQLO programme has donated over 49,000 clothing items to underprivileged people across provinces such as Điện Biên, Sơn La, Hà Giang, Yên Bái, and Thanh Hóa.
Earlier this year, UNIQLO Vietnam and the Hope Foundation inaugurated two new school buildings and a shower facility in Mù Cang Chải (Yên Bái) and Sông Mã (Sơn La), with a total value equivalent to VNĐ2.5 billion.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, UNIQLO and the Hope Foundation also provided 4,000 AIRism shirts and 1,000 face masks to frontline workers, including doctors and medical staff. — VNS
