HCM CITY — Saigon Co.op on July 11 unveiled the newly upgraded Co.opmart Xa Lộ Hà Nội supermarket in HCM City’s Tăng Nhơn Phú Ward as part of celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the Co.opmart brand, reaffirming its commitment to modernising retail and promoting sustainable consumption.

The launch is part of a nationwide programme to renovate Co.opmart stores. Supermarkets in HCM City, Cần Thơ, Huế, Hà Nội and Thanh Hóa are also being upgraded with more modern, customer-friendly designs to enhance the shopping experience while strengthening their role in connecting Vietnamese producers with consumers.

The retailer officially celebrated the Co.opmart brand's 30th anniversary at a ceremony on July 10.

Speaking at the event, Phạm Trung Kiên, general director of Saigon Co.op, said the retailer's greatest achievement over the past three decades has been earning the trust of customers, business partners, producers and government agencies.

"That trust provides the foundation for us to keep innovating and the motivation to enhance our services and create greater value for the community," he said.

Nguyễn Thị Hoài Linh, vice chairwoman of the Việt Nam Cooperative Alliance, said Saigon Co.op had demonstrated that cooperative enterprises could thrive in a competitive market through innovation, effective governance and a strong commitment to community interests.

She urged retailers to accelerate digital transformation, modernise logistics and e-commerce, and expand market access for Vietnamese products as green growth, artificial intelligence and the circular economy reshape the retail industry.

As part of its new development strategy, Saigon Co.op introduced a refreshed Co.opmart brand identity featuring a more modern look while retaining the brand's long-standing values.

The retailer said its Co.op private-label products would remain a strategic focus. The range now includes more than 2,500 essential items developed with an emphasis on quality, traceability and sustainability, alongside regional specialties, fresh food and environmentally friendly products.

Saigon Co.op is also expanding its retail ecosystem by integrating shopping with dining, entertainment and other services. Through a unified customer relationship management platform, shoppers will be able to earn and redeem loyalty benefits seamlessly across Co.opmart, Sense shopping centres and other member businesses.

To reinforce its sustainability strategy, the retailer launched the "30 Years – One Green Commitment" campaign, encouraging consumers to adopt greener shopping habits by using eco-friendly bags, reducing plastic waste and prioritising environmentally friendly products.

Saigon Co.op also announced plans to establish a social foundation to expand its long-running community programmes in education, healthcare, environmental protection and social welfare, with support from business partners, suppliers, employees and customers. — VNS
