PhenikaaMec brings international foetal medicine training model to Việt Nam

Training covered ultrasound-guided needle placement, intrauterine instrument navigation and the management of potential complications in a simulated clinical environment.

HÀ NỘI — Phenikaa University Hospital (PhenikaaMec) has launched Việt Nam’s first international simulation-based foetal intervention training programme, giving doctors hands-on training in high-risk prenatal procedures under the guidance of international specialists.

The programme was introduced at the International Conference on Foetal Medicine (ICFM 2026), hosted by PhenikaaMec in Hà Nội late last week.

Foetal intervention is one of the most technically demanding areas of modern medicine, requiring high precision and close coordination among multiple specialties. High-fidelity simulation training for such procedures has previously been available mainly at specialised medical centres overseas, according to PhenikaaMec.

At the conference, Vietnamese clinicians took part in foetal intervention procedures using advanced diagnostic and surgical simulation models under the supervision of international specialists and Dr Nguyễn Thị Sim, deputy CEO of Phenikaa University Hospital and director of the PhenikaaMec Fetal Medicine Centre.

Training covered ultrasound-guided needle placement, intrauterine instrument navigation and the management of potential complications in a simulated clinical environment.

Faculty members said simulation-based training could improve not only technical skills but also communication and teamwork, which are essential in foetal therapy.

ICFM 2026 brought together international specialists in foetal surgery and prenatal genomics, including Professor Jan Deprest, president-elect of the International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD) and a pioneer of foetoscopic endoluminal tracheal occlusion for congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

Experts also delivered lectures on recent clinical evidence and led practical workshops, case discussions and sessions on developing sustainable fetal medicine systems in emerging healthcare markets.

During the event, PhenikaaMec highlighted its university hospital model, which combines clinical care, medical education, scientific research and international cooperation.

PhenikaaMe also signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding with the ISPD and the Vietnam Association of Medical Genetics to promote academic exchanges, joint clinical research and continuing medical education.

“Developing a highly qualified specialist workforce is the cornerstone of foetal medicine in Việt ,” Dr Nguyễn Thị Sim, Deputy CEO of PhenikaaMe and Director of the PhenikaaMec Fetal Medicine Centre said.

The initiative aims to strengthen specialist training and expand access to early diagnosis and fetal intervention, supporting the development of advanced foetal healthcare in Việt NamV.

Phenikaa University Hospital, part of Phenikaa Group, is the first private healthcare institution in Việt Nam authorised by the Ministry of Health to perform 11 advanced foetal intervention techniques, according to the hospital.

Its Foetal Medicine Centre brings together maternal-foetal medicine specialists, obstetricians, clinical geneticists, paediatric surgeons, anaesthesiologists and neonatologists. — VNS
