HÀ NỘI — The Vietnam National Industry – Energy Group (Petrovietnam) has provided VNĐ18 billion (US$692,000) in cash and essential goods to Quảng Trị Province and Huế City to support recovery efforts after a series of storms and floods severely hit central Việt Nam in recent weeks.

Central provinces experienced heavy rainfall and widespread disruption in late October and early November.

In Quảng Trị, the disasters left seven people dead, two missing and four injured. Authorities reported 48 landslide locations, 76 flooded areas and significant road damage across both mountainous districts, such as Hướng Hóa and Đakrông, and downstream areas, including Cam Lộ, Gio Linh, Triệu Phong and Hải Lăng. More than 3,400 households with 8,840 people were affected, with 253 households isolated during the peak of flooding.

Huế City also suffered extensive losses between October 25 and November 3, when severe rainfall caused 15 deaths and economic damage exceeding VNĐ3.27 trillion.

On November 13, Petrovietnam Chairman Lê Mạnh Hùng led a delegation to the two localities to assess the situation and deliver relief. The group provided Quảng Trị with VNĐ3 billion, five tonnes of rice and 1,000 boxes of clean water, and gave Huế VNĐ5 billion along with five tonnes of rice and 1,000 boxes of water.

Earlier this month, immediately after floodwaters receded in parts of the central region, Petrovietnam also donated VNĐ5 billion to Đà Nẵng and VNĐ3 billion to Quảng Ngãi.

In total, Petrovietnam delivered VNĐ 18 billion in cash and essential goods to the central region during this period.

Hùng said Petrovietnam remains committed to supporting social welfare, having allocated more than VNĐ5.13 trillion to such programmes since 2020, including VNĐ217.2 billion in Quảng Trị and VNĐ40 billion in Huế.

He said Petrovietnam would continue supporting affected communities as local authorities work to stabilise livelihoods and repair damaged infrastructure. — BIZHUB/VNS
