Gia Lai greenlights $146 million agricultural project

HÀ NỘI — Truong Hai Agricultural JSC, a member of Vietnamese conglomerate Thaco Group, has received approval from Gia Lai People's Committee for a 1,625-ha agricultural project in the locality's Pờ Tó Communue. 

The project has estimated investment capital of about VNĐ3.8 trillion (US$146 million) and will be carried out by Trung Nguyen Rubber Co Ltd, a member of Truong Hai Agricultural JSC.

The project will focus on perennial crops and pig farming. The planned pig herd is about 566,000 animals of various types, with annual herd turnover and imports and exports estimated at about 1.34 million pigs.

Project procedures, including investment approval, basic design, land allocation and construction permits, are expected to be completed in the third and fourth quarters of 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with operations expected to start in the first quarter of 2028.

The provincial People's  Committee said the investor must comply with regulations on investment, land, forestry, construction and environmental protection. The company was also asked to cooperate with local authorities on transport infrastructure and livelihoods, prioritise local hiring and contribute to social welfare programmes. — VNS
