ĐÀ NẴNG – Global tech giant NVIDIA and the central city of Đà Nẵng have started planning the establishment of a centre dedicated to AI training, research and application across key sectors including healthcare, education, manufacturing and smart cities.

The Đà Nẵng Semiconductor and AI Centre (DSAC) said in a working session with representatives of NVIDIA that the AI Centre of Excellence (AI CoE), which will be equipped with NVIDIA DGX Deep GPU Xceleration infrastructure and AI Enterprise software, aims to train 3,000 AI engineers and developers in Đà Nẵng and central Việt Nam starting in 2026.

The working visit by representatives of NVIDIA marked another step forward in the ongoing collaboration between the city and the global technology enterprise.

Đà Nẵng has been speeding up efforts to become a regional hub for AI and semiconductor development with NVIDIA’s active engagement, according to DASC.

The city has taken a forward-thinking approach by proactively building a cohesive innovation ecosystem, complete with strategic direction, incentive policies, institutional leadership and robust international connectivity.

Head of NVIDIA's developer ecosystem for ASEAN and Australia-New Zealand Dr Dev Goswami acknowledged the vibrancy of the AI start-up ecosystem in Đà Nẵng and confirmed that NVIDIA would continue to expand its comprehensive support programmes on technical assistance, training and investment connectivity through initiatives like the NVIDIA Inception Programme, designated learning institution (DLI) Ambassadors and the AI CoE.

Cooperation between Đà Nẵng and NVIDIA has been ongoing since an official visit to the US and Taiwan by the city’s leadership in Silicon Valley, where the two sides held discussions on establishing a High-Performance Computing Centre, a Software Development Centre and the potential transfer of partial GPU chip production to Việt Nam.

Đà Nẵng now has five officially certified NVIDIA DLI Ambassadors who are delivering AI training based on NVIDIA’s academic resources. Each ambassador trains approximately 200 students per year, with the number expected to reach 500 by the end of 2025, DASC reported.

DSAC Director Lê Hoàng Phúc said: “The partnership with NVIDIA is not only a gateway to core global technologies, but also a testament to Đà Nẵng’s potential to emerge as a comprehensive high-tech hub – where skilled talent, open policy and global integration converge.”

The establishment of the AI CoE, the implementation of AI ambassadors across local universities and the development of high-performance computing infrastructure for semiconductor R&D will set up Đà Nẵng as a strategic destination for future technology investors in Việt Nam.

Đà Nẵng also recently hosted a Semiconductor Day, or Semicon Day Đà Nẵng, with the aim of promoting an ambitious strategic plan to develop the semiconductor and AI industries as part of the city's Master Plan 2030-2045.

A series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on semiconductor and AI cooperation, manpower training and working spaces among investors in the globally booming industry were also signed with partners including Qualcomm, Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute, Synopsys, Marvell and Arizona State University from the US.

The city encouraged US support for Đà Nẵng building an Assembling, Testing and Packaging Centre along with other semiconductor industry developments.

To date, 14 businesses are operating chip design and semiconductor facilities in the central city, including Synopsys, Uniquify, Renesas, Synapse (now Quest Global), Sannei Hytechs, Mixel Việt Nam, Marvell Việt Nam, Sibridges Việt Nam, Ideas2Silion Việt Nam, FPT Semiconductor, Viettel Hi-Tech and Acronics.VNS
