CÀ MAU — Vietjet is expected to launch a direct air route between Hà Nội and Cà Mau on November 29, with three flights per week, using Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft.

The plan was discussed at a working session on October 29 between the Cà Mau Provincial People’s Committee, Vietjet and Cà Mau Airport to review preparations for the operation of the Hà Nội–Cà Mau route and return flights.

According to Vietjet representatives, the airline plans to operate three flights a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Each flight will have a capacity of 180 to 186 passengers.

To ensure the route operates effectively, Vietjet called on local authorities to introduce support policies and step up communications to attract passengers. The airline also proposed that Cà Mau Airport accelerate the implementation of digital applications to support operations.

The airport’s management board said its upgrading and expansion project was in the process of completing preparations for the remaining components in line with the schedule. Construction quality is being closely supervised to ensure flight safety when the airport resumes operations.

Cà Mau Airport is also coordinating with the provincial police and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to inspect security arrangements and prepare to welcome the first flight from Hà Nội, scheduled for November 29, 2026.

Vice Chairman of the Cà Mau Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Minh Luân said the province was attracting interest from domestic and foreign investors while holding considerable potential for eco-tourism, mangrove forest tourism and spiritual tourism.

The new air route is expected to make it easier for businesses, investors and tourists to travel to the province.

The provincial authorities will direct relevant departments and agencies to work with Vietjet to accelerate procedures for launching the route, while strengthening communications to attract tourists and investors.

The Cà Mau Airport upgrading and expansion project has a total investment of nearly VNĐ2.4 trillion.

Under the airport development plan for 2021–2030, the airport is expected to meet 4C standards, with an annual capacity of one million passengers and 1,000 tonnes of cargo.

By 2050, its capacity is projected to increase to three million passengers and 3,000 tonnes of cargo annually. — VNS
