Cần Thơ approves $190 million high-tech park
The park would support the development of agricultural and aquatic product processing, advanced agricultural machinery, renewable energy and technologies aimed at addressing climate change, city authorities said. HÀ NỘI — The Mekong Delta City of Cần Thơ has approved the establishment of a 200ha high-tech park with estimated investment of more than VNĐ5 trillion (US$192 million).
Of the total investment, VNĐ1.44 trillion will come from the city budget and VNĐ3.61 trillion from non-budget sources, including foreign direct investment, official development assistance and private investment in infrastructure and other projects.
The Cần Thơ High-Tech Park will be managed directly by the city's People's Committee and located in Ô Môn Ward. It will focus on five technology areas: biotechnology, automation, new materials, energy and post-harvest technologies.

The first phase, scheduled for 2026-2028, will focus on completing legal procedures, establishing a management board, approving detailed plans, clearing land and beginning construction of technical infrastructure. The estimated cost for the phase is about VNĐ2.64 trillion.
From 2028 to 2030, the city plans to continue land clearance and complete infrastructure development, with estimated investment of more than VNĐ2.41 trillion, to be funded entirely from non-budget sources.
After 2030, the park is expected to be fully operational and begin attracting offices, research centres, factories and technology companies, the city said.
Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyễn Văn Khởi said the project was based on the city's 2021-2030 development plan and related planning adjustments.
It is intended to link scientific research, technology development, business incubation, workforce training and high value-added production, Khởi said.
The city's authorities have assigned the Department of Science and Technology to coordinate implementation. Other departments will be responsible for financing, planning, land clearance, environmental procedures and the organisational framework. — VNS
