HÀ NỘI -- On March 28, 2026, the People’s Committee of Gia Lai Province and VinEnergo Energy JSC signed a mmMemorandum of Understanding (MoU) to study and explore investment in the Gia Lai Wind Power Plant Cluster.
The agreement marks a key step in VinEnergo’s strategy to expand renewable energy investments, while underscoring Vingroup’s commitment to supporting the province’s green transition and sustainable development.
Under the MoU, both sides will coordinate closely in conducting research and field surveys toward developing the project in two phases on a large regional scale.
Phase 1 is expected to have a capacity of around 2,000 MW, with Phase 2 expanding the total to about 3,000 MW. Once completed, the project will form a major clean energy complex, contributing stable electricity to the national grid and meeting rising energy demand.
Total investment is estimated at about VND210 trillion (nearly US$8 billion). The project is expected to drive socio-economic development in Gia Lai, while helping reduce environmental pollution, address climate change, and strengthen long-term energy security.
Nguyễn Hữu Quế, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the province highly values VinEnergo’s capacity in implementing large-scale renewable energy projects, and pledged favorable conditions and administrative support to accelerate project implementation.
Nguyễn Hương Giang, Deputy General Director of VinEnergo, said the company is committed to long-term, systematic investment in compliance with regulations, ensuring balanced benefits for the State, businesses, and local communities.
VinEnergo is currently investing in several large renewable energy projects nationwide, including wind power plants in Ha Tinh and Gia Lai, and solar projects in Điện Biên and Lai Châu.
Looking ahead, the company aims to develop 100 GW of renewable energy capacity over the next three years across key international markets such as North America, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia, while also exploring opportunities in Central Asia and Africa. Initial agreements have already been secured for projects in Denmark, Sweden and the Philippines with a combined capacity of 10 GW, highlighting the growing global presence of the Vietnamese renewable energy firm. -- VNS
