The Viet Nam Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) broke ground for two garment factories in the Mekong Delta cities of Bac Lieu and Can Tho on Wednesday.

Located in Tra Kha Industrial Park, the VND150 billion (US$7 million) Vinatex Bac Lieu factory is expected to employ over 2,000 workers and produce over 5 million pieces of garments a year.
In the beginning it is expected to achieve annual exports of $20-30 million.
Vinatex Can Tho is likely to employ over 1,500 workers who will to churn out 4 million to 5 million pieces a year. The VND150 billion factory is also expected to achieve annual exports of $20-30 million.
The two are scheduled to become operational in 2017, helping speed up the development of the new rural area model and a Mekong Delta programme to build new rural areas in cities. — VNS
