BARCELONA — VinaPhone has been named the 'Best 5G Network in Việt Nam and Southeast Asia' at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, marking a milestone in its 30-year journey of developing Việt Nam’s digital infrastructure.

The award was presented by Ookla, the global network intelligence firm behind Speedtest on Tuesday. VinaPhone, a subsidiary of Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), was the only Vietnamese representative honoured at the event.

The 'Best 5G Network' title is based on Ookla’s Speedtest Connectivity Score, which evaluates overall 5G user experience. The index comprises three components: Speed Score (50 per cent), Web Browsing (25 per cent) and Video Streaming (25 per cent). The results are drawn from millions of real-world user tests across Việt Nam.

VinaPhone recorded a Speedtest Connectivity Score of 83.60, standing out clearly among domestic 5G providers. Its Speed Score reached 75.48, about 8 per cent higher than the runner-up, reinforcing its position as the country’s fastest 5G network and contributing to its overall win.

Regionally, VinaPhone also surpassed major operators such as Singtel, Unifi and AIS to secure the title of Best 5G Network in Southeast Asia for the third and fourth quarters of 2025.

Stephen Bye, President and CEO of Ookla, said the award recognised VinaPhone’s strong investment and commitment to delivering leading mobile connectivity. He noted that Ookla’s rigorous testing methodology ensures objective and reliable assessment of network performance.

With more than 70 per cent of mobile data traffic now driven by video, social media and digital content platforms, demand for high-speed, stable connectivity continues to rise. VinaPhone 5G offers speeds 10–15 times faster than 4G and can exceed 1 Gbps under optimal conditions, supporting high-resolution video streaming, online entertainment and remote working.

VNPT said it had implemented comprehensive technical solutions from the early planning stages of its 5G rollout. Beyond expanding coverage and increasing the number of base stations, the group has focused on user experience by applying modern traffic forecasting models and user-density analysis to optimise site locations.

Each 5G station undergoes multi-layer testing under real-life scenarios such as livestreaming, gaming and high-density data usage, while real-time monitoring systems continuously fine-tune network parameters to ensure consistent performance.

Speaking at the award ceremony, VNPT Deputy General Director Nguyễn Nam Long said: "The recognition reflected not only current technological capability but also VinaPhone’s three-decade commitment to improving service quality and elevating Việt Nam’s position on the global telecom map."

The achievement underscores VNPT’s 'Go Global' strategy, aimed at bringing Vietnamese digital products and services deeper into the global value chain and strengthening its role as a leading technology group in the region. — VNS
