HÀ NỘI — Viettel Group has announced that its Hòa Lạc 2 Data Centre has become the first digital infrastructure facility in the Asia-Pacific region to integrate NVIDIA H200 GPU supercomputing systems while achieving the internationally recognised Uptime Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility.

The certification, awarded by the US-based Uptime Institute, confirms that the facility meets stringent global standards for reliability, availability and operational resilience.

According to Viettel, the milestone positions Hòa Lạc 2 as a next-generation AI data centre capable of operating as an 'AI Factory', providing businesses with access to advanced computing power without requiring major investments in costly hardware.

The infrastructure also enables organisations to develop and deploy their own AI models tailored to specific operational needs.

Speaking at the certification ceremony, Deputy General Director of Viettel Networks Hoàng Bình Sơn said Viettel’s ability to oversee the entire process – from design and construction to operation – demonstrates its readiness to provide secure and modern digital infrastructure for Việt Nam’s digital transformation.

He added that Viettel plans to expand large data centre clusters across the country, focusing on advanced technologies.

A key feature of the certification process was Viettel’s use of live NVIDIA H200 GPU clusters rather than simulated loads during testing.

While most data centres rely on artificial workloads to assess infrastructure performance, Hòa Lạc 2 underwent evaluation using its operational AI servers, providing a more rigorous demonstration of real-world reliability.

Patrick Chan, regional director for Asia-Pacific at Uptime Institute, praised Viettel for meeting the organisation’s demanding standards. He highlighted the facility’s resilient design, robust infrastructure and strict operational procedures, which ensure uninterrupted service even under adverse conditions.

Purpose-built for high-performance AI computing, Hòa Lạc 2 differs from conventional data centres that primarily support data storage and enterprise applications. The facility is currently the largest internationally certified Tier III data centre in Việt Nam, housing 2,400 server racks that support AI, cloud computing and big data services.

The centre features more than 100 NVIDIA H200 GPU server clusters and an NVIDIA DGX B200 supercomputer capable of performing 1.5 quintillion calculations per second. To support these systems, Viettel has deployed Việt Nam’s largest data centre cooling system, with a capacity of 5,000 refrigeration tonnes and full redundancy to ensure continuous operation.

The facility serves as a core component of Viettel Cloud, the company’s wholly developed cloud platform.

Viettel Cloud currently operates through 14 data centres nationwide, with more than 11,500 server racks across 81,000 square metres of floor space, managed by a team of 500 engineers and technology specialists. — BIZHUB
