HÀ NỘI — As part of an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn and a high-level Vietnamese delegation attended a policy dialogue on promoting Việt Nam – Morocco cooperation on the afternoon of July 25 in Casablanca.

The event gathered leaders from ministries, localities and businesses of both countries, marking a new step forward in bilateral economic and trade relations.

Addressing the dialogue, Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn emphasised that despite geographical distance, Việt Nam and Morocco have always maintained mutual trust, respect and goodwill in cooperation.

“Although our two countries are far apart geographically, our hearts are not distant. Therefore, in the time ahead, we must improve the legal framework for bilateral cooperation,” Mẫn said. He proposed that both sides review and sign outstanding agreements and promote public–private investment partnerships in key sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, logistics and aviation.

Regarding Việt Nam’s socio-economic development, Chairman Mẫn said the country recorded GDP growth of 7.09 per cent in 2024, with all 15 out of 15 socio-economic targets met or exceeded.

The GDP scale reached approximately US$470 billion, and per capita income surpassed $4,774. In the first half of 2025 alone, GDP rose by 7.52 per cent, with over $20 billion in FDI registered and around $15 billion disbursed. Việt Nam now ranks as the 34th largest economy globally, with strong performance in industry, trade and services, and is one of the world’s most open economies.

He affirmed that Việt Nam is ready to share its experience in developing raw material zones, agricultural and fisheries supply chains, export processing hubs, and commodity exchanges tailored to Morocco’s context.

Impressed by Morocco’s economy, Mẫn praised the North African country’s strategic position, modern infrastructure, Africa’s first high-speed railway, a thriving international financial centre and a renewable energy ratio of around 40 per cent.

“With its strategic position and increasingly important role in Africa, Morocco can partner with Việt Nam to implement trilateral or quadrilateral cooperation projects, especially in agriculture and technology, with the participation of international donors,” Mẫn proposed.

From the Moroccan side, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises Chakib Alj expressed high hopes for bilateral cooperation.

“Việt Nam and Morocco already enjoy a solid relationship based on mutual respect and trust. Strengthening our cooperation will deliver mutual benefits and generate positive results,” he said.

He noted that Việt Nam is one of the most sought-after partners, particularly in agricultural processing, electronics, and education and training. He also praised Việt Nam’s dynamic economy and open market, highlighting the importance of business connectivity in fostering meaningful cooperation.

During the dialogue, representatives of ministries, agencies and businesses from both countries discussed the investment climate, proposed solutions to enhance industrial and trade collaboration, and outlined directions for cooperation in agriculture, aviation and inclusive finance. Both sides agreed on the need to establish a regular dialogue mechanism to maintain an effective business connection channel.

Notably, under the witness of the two countries’ National Assembly chairmen, Việt Nam and Morocco signed a memorandum of understanding on promoting investment cooperation. The Vietnamese Ministry of Finance signed a cooperation deal with CGEM, and Vietnam Airlines signed agreements with CGEM and Moroccan enterprises in the aviation sector, providing fresh impetus to bilateral economic cooperation in the coming period. — VNS
