HCM CITY — Sandoz, a Swiss company that makes affordable medicines, has signed a strategic partnership with Long Châu pharmacy chain and the HCM City Respiratory Society to support antibiotic treatment adherence across Việt Nam.

The initiative combines Sandoz’s global expertise, the HCM City Respiratory Society’s medical leadership, and Long Châu’s nationwide network to help patients better understand antibiotic use and adhere to treatment.

Amid rising antimicrobial resistance in Việt Nam, improving adherence is seen as critical not only for better patient outcomes but also protecting public health.

Charaf Kadri, general director of Sandoz Vietnam, said better outcomes depend on both access to medicines and patient understanding.

“Through this collaboration, we hope to work with trusted partners to strengthen the role of pharmacists, support patients more effectively throughout treatment, and contribute meaningfully to healthcare in Việt Nam.”

Peter Stenico, president international at Sandoz, said collaborations that combine global expertise with strong local networks could deliver practical benefits for patients and communities, improving understanding, adherence, and treatment outcomes.

As part of the initiative, a pharmacist training programme was held in HCM City, and was attended by around 200 participants. The training focused on respiratory infections, patient counselling and practical ways pharmacists can support antibiotic treatment adherence in daily community practice.

Nguyễn Đỗ Quyên, deputy CEO of FPT Retail, said Long Châu’s network of more than 2,500 pharmacies provides an opportunity for pharmacists to go beyond dispensing medicines by offering trusted guidance and supporting better health outcomes.

As the medical partner, the HCM City Respiratory Society will provide clinical guidance, ensure the accuracy of training materials, and support professional education for community-based care.

“Helping patients understand and follow antibiotic treatment correctly is an important part of improving outcomes and contributing to the response to antimicrobial resistance,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trần Văn Ngọc, chairperson of the Society, said.

“This partnership creates an opportunity to extend evidence-based guidance beyond clinical settings and into everyday community touchpoints, where pharmacists can provide timely and meaningful support.”

The initiative is set to be rolled out nationwide through pharmacist training, community engagement and digital outreach. — BIZHUB
