HCM CITY — Phú Mỹ Hưng Development Corporation and the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation recently presented 113 scholarships totaling nearly VNĐ3.8 billion (US$144,000) to outstanding students in HCM City.
For the 23rd consecutive year, the Lawrence S. Ting Scholarship Awards have been given to support students in the city. This year, the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation granted 113 scholarships worth nearly VNĐ3.8 billion to cover one full year of tuition for students from 10 universities who are facing financial difficulties, exhibit exceptional academic performance, and actively engage in extracurricular activities.
In tandem, through the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation, Phú Mỹ Hưng earmarked VNĐ5 billion in scholarships for various national charitable organisations and educational encouragement associations to enable them to distribute scholarships locally.
Over the past two decades, Phú Mỹ Hưng and the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation have awarded approximately 125,878 scholarships, both directly and indirectly, valued at nearly VNĐ160 billion, to underprivileged students, ethnic minority children, children with disabilities, and orphans. These endeavors aim to support ongoing education, enhance capabilities, and nurture talents that will contribute to Việt Nam's future.
Notably, beginning in 2021, the foundation launched a new project to support schools educating children with disabilities in the Mekong Delta region, aiming to enhance the quality of education for over 1,000 disabled children.
In addition to educational initiatives, the foundation also administers several community support programmes focusing on healthcare and community well-being.
Hence, considering the comprehensive education, healthcare, and social philanthropy programmes outlined above, the foundation has contributed over VNĐ543 billion to support the community after 20 years of operation. — VNS
