HCM CITY — Việt Nam Agriculture Logistics (VAL), a joint venture between Bunge and Wilmar, has opened its second soybean crushing line at the Phú Mỹ 1 Industrial Park in HCM City, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia.

The 11.2ha complex is built to leading international standards for oilseed processing. 

It features eight silos with a total storage capacity of 120,000 tonnes, with temperature and humidity managed automatically to maintain raw material quality.

Backed by an investment of more than US$100 million, the new line is fully automated, covering every stage from cleaning and dehulling to flaking and extraction. 

Smart sensors combined with NIR technology allow real-time monitoring of product quality.

The line adds a further 4,000 tonnes of daily processing capacity, raising VAL’s total output to 7,800 tonnes per day when combined with its first line, which has been in operation since 2011. 

This expansion places VAL among the largest soybean crushing complexes in Southeast Asia.

VAL said the project is a strategic move to meet rising market demand and reflects its commitment to supporting Việt Nam’s livestock sector in developing sustainably and moving towards greater self-sufficiency.

Nguyễn Công Vinh, deputy chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, said the project demonstrates strong investor confidence in the city’s economic prospects. 

He said that the new facility will play an important role in ensuring food and feed security, reducing supply chain risks and stabilising costs for the livestock industry.

With an annual output of over 500,000 tonnes of crude soybean oil, the plant will also boost Việt Nam’s export capacity and strengthen its position among major soybean oil suppliers in the region. — VNS
