HÀ NỘI — Thai industrial conglomerate SCG reported stronger first-half earnings on Wednesday, driven by cost controls, business restructuring and improved performance across Southeast Asia, while reaffirming its long-term commitment to expanding investments in Việt Nam.

SCG posted adjusted cash EBITDA of 34.85 trillion baht (US$1.34 billion) in the first half of 2026, up 35 per cent from a year earlier, while profit for the period rose to 10.23 trillion baht ($394 million).

The company attributed the improvement to disciplined cost management, diversified raw material sourcing, expansion of higher-value products, business restructuring and wider adoption of robotics and artificial intelligence across its ASEAN operations.

"While global conditions remain uncertain, our direction is clear - strengthening competitiveness, investing for the long term, and growing together with Việt Nam," President and CEO Thammasak Sethaudom said in a statement.

SCG said the country remained a key market, generating revenue of 37.12 trillion baht ($1.42 billion) in the first six months of the year, up 126 per cent from a year earlier.

The increase was supported by improved business performance and the resumption of operations at Long Sơn Petrochemicals (LSP) late last year.

The company said construction of LSP's Ethane Feedstock Enhancement Project was more than 60 per cent complete despite temporary feedstock disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East.

The project is expected to improve feedstock flexibility and strengthen the long-term competitiveness of Việt Nam's petrochemical industry.

Packaging unit SCGP is investing about VNĐ622 billion to expand its corrugated packaging capacity in the South, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2027.

The company said it continued to align its investments with Việt Nam's goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 through the development of low-carbon materials, circular economy solutions and energy-efficient products.

During the period, SCG executives met Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm to reaffirm the group's commitment to supporting Việt Nam's industrial development, green growth and circular economy initiatives. — BIZHUB
