HÀ NỘI — Japanese manufacturing group MISUMI is investing approximately 4.6 billion yen (US$29 million) to expand production capacity in Việt Nam and several other countries, as the rapid adoption of generative AI drives demand for industrial components used in data centres and next-generation robotics.

The company said AI is transforming both the technology industry and global industrial supply chains by creating unprecedented demand for precision mechanical components.

As investment in AI infrastructure accelerates, manufacturers are expanding production to meet growing requirements from high-tech industries.

MISUMI's latest investment will focus on increasing production of Automated Positioning Stages, precision components used in equipment that manufactures optical transceiver modules for data centres supporting generative AI applications.

The firm also plans to expand manufacturing of components for fast-growing industries, including humanoid robotics.

According to MISUMI, technology companies worldwide are accelerating investment in data centre infrastructure, driving strong demand for optical component manufacturing equipment and precision mechanical parts.

At the same time, increasing factory automation and labour shortages in many countries are creating new growth opportunities for the humanoid robotics industry.

To capitalise on these trends, MISUMI plans to expand production capacity to ensure a stable supply for customers worldwide.

Once the project is completed, production capacity for Automated Positioning Stages is expected to increase to around three times the fiscal year 2025 level.

Việt Nam has been selected as one of the key destinations for investment.

The company said expanding production in the country will strengthen its global supply capability while highlighting Việt Nam's increasingly important role in the high-tech industrial supply chain.

"The development of AI is creating profound changes in the manufacturing industry. We believe that expanding production capacity now will enable MISUMI to better meet customer demand in the coming years while contributing to the sustainable development of industry," the firm said.

Alongside production expansion, MISUMI is continuing its Digital MODEL Shift strategy to improve customer productivity through digital manufacturing.

The company said its AI-powered meviy platform can automatically generate quotes from 3D design data, shortening the time from design to production and streamlining procurement processes.

MISUMI added that its goal is not only to supply industrial components, but also to help customers reduce repetitive tasks, allowing them to focus more on innovation while enhancing productivity and competitiveness. — BIZHUB/VNS
