HÀ NỘI — The Dung Quat biofuel plant is on track to resume ethanol production in November, aiming to supply E10 biofuel for the Vietnamese market.

The announcement was made by Phạm Văn Vượng, director of the Central Biofuel Company (BSR-BF), during a recent meeting with the leadership of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (BSR).

With a focus on meticulous daily progress monitoring and the mobilisation of maximum manpower, the plant’s maintenance schedule is set to conclude by October 31.

The maintenance work is currently underway in the electrical and steam workshop, following the successful startup of the main power station, which will provide electricity to the entire facility.

This initiative is a crucial step for BSR to align with the green fuel transition strategy outlined by Petrovietnam and the government.

The Dung Quat biofuel plant has an annual production capacity of 100 million litres of ethanol, primarily sourced from dried cassava.

The plant plays a vital role in energy security, emission reduction, and the development of clean fuels, contributing to Việt Nam's sustainable development goals and its ambition for carbon neutrality by 2050.

According to the latest guidance from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, all commercial gasoline in Việt Nam will transition to E10 starting January 1, 2026. With domestic gasoline consumption estimated at 12 to 15 million cubic meters annually, the demand for ethanol to meet blending requirements is projected to be around 1.2 - 1.5 million cubic meters per year.

Currently, domestic ethanol production is at approximately 450,000cu.m, meeting only 40 per cent of the demand, necessitating imports for the remainder. — BIZHUB/VNS
