The 3.43ha plant will have a designed capacity of 5,000 tonnes of green coffee beans a year, equivalent to around 25,000 tonnes of fresh coffee cherries.
SƠN LA — Detech Coffee JSC on Sunday broke ground on a VNĐ95 billion (US$3.6 million) deep-processing plant in Sơn La Province.
Located in Bình Thuận Commune, the 3.43ha plant will have a designed capacity of 5,000 tonnes of green coffee beans a year, equivalent to around 25,000 tonnes of fresh coffee cherries.
The facility is expected to produce green coffee beans, speciality coffee, roasted and ground coffee, cascara tea made from coffee husks and other value-added products. It will also focus on quality control, traceability and environmental protection to meet domestic and export market requirements.
Detech Coffee chairwoman and CEO Đào Ngọc Anh said the investment was a key step in the company’s strategy to add value to Sơn La coffee, with a focus on modern processing technologies, high-quality products meeting international standards and closer links with local coffee growers.
The project aligns with the province’s efforts to increase the value of its Arabica coffee through processing and product diversification
Sơn La authorities have pledged to facilitate the project’s implementation and called on the investor to adopt advanced processing technology, comply with environmental and safety regulations, and maintain stable procurement from local growers.
Sơn La has about 44,000ha of coffee plantations, mainly Arabica, with green coffee bean output estimated at 50,960 tonnes in 2026. The province aims to raise coffee export earnings to US$186 million by 2030 by expanding speciality coffee production and deep processing. — BIZHUB/VNS
