HCM CITY — Coteccons Construction Joint Stock Company (HOSE: CTD), in collaboration with the local authorities of Tuyên Lâm Commune, Quảng Trị Province, has launched the “Community Forest Plantation Project at Bản Kè,” planting 11,777 native trees across 10.6 hectares to restore watershed protection forests.

This initiative is part of Coteccons’ broader GreenUP programme, introduced in 2022, which integrates environmental action into the company’s annual activities.

Over the past four years, Coteccons has partnered with the province to plant a total of 33,063 native trees.

The newly planted species include Erythrophleum fordii (Lim Xanh), Toona sinensis (Xoan Đào), and Michelia mediocris (Giới Xanh), which are all rare and indigenous to the region. By restoring watershed protection forests, the project aims to reduce erosion, enhance climate resilience, and provide sustainable benefits to local communities.

Đinh Xuân Thương, secretary and chairman of the Tuyên Lâm Commune People’s Committee, said: “The forest area being planted and protected in Bản Kè has reached more than 22 hectares, is located at the headwaters of the Gianh River, and plays a critical role in both the ecosystem and the lives of local people. Coteccons has regenerated 10.6 hectares of barren land and is committed to continued care and monitoring in the coming years.”

He added that beyond reforestation, the company has also supported schools and community facilities, making them more welcoming and livable.

Bùi Ngọc Kim, Coteccons’ CEO, said: “Reforestation and biodiversity conservation have been among our flagship sustainability initiatives for the past four years. This is a long-term journey alongside the local community to nurture and protect natural forests. Each tree planted today not only greens areas once affected by climate change but also represents a tangible step toward building a brighter, greener future.”

Alongside tree planting, Coteccons awarded five scholarships worth VNĐ10 million to outstanding students of Lâm Hoá Semi-boarding School for Ethnic Minorities and presented 66 essential gift sets to Chút households in Bản Kè.

Between 2022 and 2024, Coteccons and local authorities planted 21,286 native trees across nearly 24 hectares, supported by a structured forest care and protection programme. Maintenance during the first three years, including clearing undergrowth, removing vines, replanting, and fertilising, has ensured survival rates of up to 90 per cent.

These restored forests are also helping protect the critically endangered White-cheeked Gibbon (Nomascus leucogenys), with around 22 troops and over 150 individuals now thriving in nearby buffer zones.  VNS
