PHÚ THỌ — Cargill has inaugurated its 129th Cargill Cares school in Việt Nam, handing over four new classrooms at the Yên Nghiệp campus of Đại Đồng Kindergarten in Đại Đồng Commune, Phú Thọ Province.

The project, representing an investment of approximately VNĐ3 billion (US$116,000), also includes a playground and security fences. The facilities will improve learning conditions for about 380 children and allow the kindergarten to consolidate several satellite classes into a safer, more centralised learning environment.

Nguyễn Bá Luân, country representative of Cargill Vietnam, said: “Every child deserves access to a quality learning environment. Through Cargill Cares, we work closely with local communities and partners to understand their needs and help improve educational facilities in rural areas.”

He added that Cargill would continue working with communities to expand educational opportunities across Viet Nam.

Bùi Thị Phương, principal of Đại Đồng Kindergarten, said the additional classrooms and playground would provide children with better spaces for learning, playing and developing.

The school marks Cargill's fourth education project in Phú Thọ and is part of its school-building programme, established in Việt Nam in 1996 to support children in agricultural communities by providing access to quality education in safe and conducive learning environments.

Coordinated by the employee-led Cargill Cares Council, the programme brings together employees, customers, suppliers and community partners to support school planning and construction.

Following the completion of its 100th school in 2020, Cargill set a new target of building 150 schools and providing 100 libraries and playgrounds in Việt Nam by 2030.

To date, the company has mobilised approximately $7 million to build 129 schools across 32 of the country’s 34 provinces, benefiting nearly 20,000 students annually. It has also established 45 libraries and playgrounds for kindergarten and primary school children. — BIZHUB
