HÀ NỘI — Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched its first AWS Local Zone in Việt Nam, bringing cloud infrastructure closer to local customers and supporting the country's rapidly growing digital economy.

Located in Hà Nội, the new facility enables organisations to store and process data locally, helping meet data residency and compliance requirements while delivering low-latency performance for applications that require real-time responsiveness.

The launch is expected to benefit industries ranging from finance and healthcare to gaming, media and telecommunications, allowing businesses to run latency-sensitive workloads closer to end users without sacrificing the reliability, security and scalability of AWS services.

Jeff Johnson, Managing Director for ASEAN at AWS, said Việt Nam is among Southeast Asia's most dynamic digital economies, with businesses increasingly demanding advanced cloud capabilities.

"The AWS Local Zone in Hà Nội puts world-class compute and storage closer to customers, enabling Vietnamese organisations to innovate, scale and compete more effectively," he said.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Phạm Đức Long welcomed the investment, saying the new cloud infrastructure would support enterprises' technology needs while strengthening Việt Nam's position as a regional digital hub.

"The launch reflects AWS's confidence in Việt Nam's digital economy and will help foster innovation, digital talent development and the sustainable growth of the country's digital ecosystem," Long said.

The AWS Local Zone in Hà Nội delivers single-digit millisecond latency and supports a range of enterprise applications, including hybrid cloud deployments, VMware migrations and local data processing. It is also among the first AWS Local Zones globally to offer local object storage and snapshot capabilities through Amazon S3 One Zone-Infrequent Access and Amazon EBS Local Snapshots.

The facility provides access to Amazon EC2 computing services and can be connected through the internet or via AWS Direct Connect for dedicated private networking.

AWS said customers can use the same tools, APIs and management services available across its global cloud network while maintaining control over where their data resides.

A number of Vietnamese organisations are already using the new infrastructure, including banks such as VIB and VPBank, fintech firm Trusting Social and electric mobility company Green SM. Other AWS customers in Việt Nam include AI Hay, MoMo, Techcombank, Vinamilk and Việt Nam Television (VTV).

Virginia Foote, Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hà Nội, said the investment sends a positive signal to international businesses about Việt Nam's attractiveness as a destination for technology and digital investment.
