VPPNext 2025: Catalysing Việt Nam’s packaging industry for a greener future

As consumer demand for sustainable packaging intensifies and global ESG standards grow stricter, Việt Nam’s packaging and printing industry is entering a decisive new phase. The introduction of frameworks such as the Green Taxonomy and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is accelerating the transition toward a circular economy — one that requires bold innovation, significant investment, and strong cross-sector collaboration.

HCM CITY — As consumer demand accelerates toward sustainable packaging and global ESG requirements tighten, Việt Nam’s packaging and printing industry stands at a decisive turning point.

With frameworks such as the Green Taxonomy and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) being rolled out, the shift to a circular economy demands innovation, capital, and cross-sector collaboration.

Launched in September 2025 at the 23rd Vietnam International Printing & Packaging Industry Exhibition, VPPNext responds directly to this urgency. Co-hosted by Chan Chao International and CCX Partners, and supported by Vietnam Investment Review and Vietnam Financial Times, VPPNext positions itself not just as an exhibition but as a strategic, capital-focused catalyst for Việt Nam’s green industrial transition.

At the opening of the Strategy Forum, Dr. Nguyễn Thị Diệu Trinh, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Finance, highlighted the platform’s role: “VPPNext brings government, finance, and industry into one room. Platforms like this are critical to turning our green finance strategy into action. We expect to see more commercial banks participate and real investment deals closed right here on the exhibition floor.”

The Strategy Forum gathered senior representatives from Tetrapak, Evonik, Visingpack, and the IFC to discuss the implications of Việt Nam’s Green Taxonomy on capital eligibility and the manufacturing sector.

Avinash Kumar, Investment Officer at the International Finance Corporation said that “Việt Nam’s Green Taxonomy is a strong signal that more green finance deals will emerge. However, translating policy into real impact still requires major investment in SME capabilities particularly skills, innovation readiness, and supply chain traceability.”

The Innovation Forum opened with a keynote by Tetrapak, presenting its circular economy model from sustainable sourcing to post-consumer recycling. The company’s booth attracted hundreds of visitors with live demonstrations of sustainable packaging solutions.

Visingpack showcased recyclable films and digital printing technologies, drawing strong interest from domestic buyers and international brands. Leveraging the VPPNext platform, the company secured new orders and B2B partnerships during the event.

The 2025 edition marked the debut of VPPNext as a mission-driven platform to mobilise green capital, foster local innovation, and align national and industry agendas.

Akai Lin, Overseas Director at Chan Chao International, emphasised “This is only the beginning. The insights shared today on green finance and sustainable transition provide a solid foundation for future collaboration, shaping the dialogue and actions that will drive Việt Nam’s packaging industry forward.”

Phuong Nguyen, Managing Partner at CCX Partners, added “We aim to evolve VPPNext into a year-round platform, endorsed by Việt Nam’s regulator by 2026, bringing together green capital, green technologies, and green partnerships to accelerate the country’s packaging transformation. We are confident that VPPNext will continue receiving strong support from leading enterprises as well as key organisations and associations across ASEAN markets.”

As Chan Chao and CCX Partners prepare for VPPNext 2026, the message is clear: the green transition is no longer theoretical It is unfolding on the exhibition floor, in supplier factories, and in the strategic plans of Việt Nam’s most forward-looking manufacturers and financiers. — VNS
