The programme aims to promote a modern, safe and inclusive digital ecosystem while ensuring that people and businesses can access financial and banking services without being left behind.
HÀ NỘI — The organising committee of Vietnam Digital Payments Day 2026 on Thursday announced a series of events under the theme “Tap into Digital, Live Green”, marking the sixth edition of the programme and the first under its new name.
The programme, formerly known as Vietnam Card Day, has been organised since 2020 by Tiền Phong (Vanguard) Newspaper and the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS), under the content direction of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV).
The name change reflects the rapid development of cashless payments, from physical cards to QR codes, tap-to-pay, e-wallets, mobile payments and biometric authentication.
Phùng Công Sưởng, Editor-in-Chief of Tiền Phong and co-head of the organising committee, said digital payments had become increasingly integrated into everyday services, from shopping and transport to healthcare, education and public services.
“After five editions of Vietnam Card Day, cards are no longer the only means of payment,” said Sưởng, noting that people can now pay hospital bills by QR code, pay taxes by phone, and make purchases overseas with a single scan.|
The “Tap into Digital, Live Green” theme highlights the potential environmental benefits of digital payments, he said, as electronic invoices, QR payments and online services can reduce paper use, cash handling and unnecessary travel.
Phạm Anh Tuấn, Director of the SBV’s Payment Department, said expanding the programme into Việt Nam Digital Payments Day was a natural step as digital transformation reshaped access to financial services.
He stressed that alongside market growth, safety and security remained priorities, particularly in protecting older people and those who are new to digital banking.
The programme aims to promote a modern, safe and inclusive digital ecosystem while ensuring that people and businesses can access financial and banking services without being left behind.
The organising committee also launched a promotional campaign featuring actress and beauty queen Trần Ngọc Châu Anh as the programme’s image ambassador.
Key activities include a student forum at the Banking Academy on October 12 and a thematic workshop, “Smart Connections – Building a Digital Ecosystem”, at Pan Pacific Hanoi on October 14. Discussions will focus on integrated digital payments, cross-border transactions, fraud prevention and consumer protection.
The main event, Sóng Festival, will take place on October 24-25 at Trần Nhân Tông pedestrian street in Hà Nội. Nearly 70 stalls and 28 commercial banks, financial intermediaries and businesses are expected to participate, with all transactions conducted through digital payment methods.
The festival will also feature more than 20 stalls showcasing Hà Nội’s OCOP-certified products and the second edition of the “Chạm Việt Nam” music night.
Community activities will remain part of the programme. Organisers said previous editions had contributed more than VNĐ1 billion to disaster and fire relief, computer rooms, scholarships and gifts for schools in disadvantaged areas.
This year, organisers plan to donate 10 computers and plant trees at schools, with VNĐ200 million to be contributed through charity account 1611 at MB Bank. — VNS
