Lefaso has called for faster development of the domestic supporting industry to reduce reliance on imported materials. It also proposed establishing strategic raw material reserves and trading platforms to improve supply security.
The southern province of Dong Nai in the first half of this year gained a growth of nearly 7 per cent in footwear export value to US$2.14 billion compared to the same period last year.
The footwear and handbag industry aims to reach export revenue of US$24 billion in 2020, after hitting $22 billion last year, the industry association said.
By the year-end, local garment industry is eyeing 6.5 per cent to 7 per cent export growth to more than $30 billion, while the footwear sector hopes to bring home $18 billion, a yearly rise of 10 per cent.

Exports of some light industrial products are expected to increase this
year while shipments of agricultural products will likely fail to meet
