The agriculture sector needs to address challenges related to branding, geographical indications, traceability, and intellectual property to take full advantage of the free trade agreement Viet Nam has signed with the EU, speakers said on July 24 at a meeting.
Viet Nam’s agriculture sector gained a trade surplus of US$8.8 billion in the first 11 months of this year, $1.5 billion higher than the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
The agricultural sector gained a trade surplus of US$1 billion in the first two months of this year despite a year-on-year decrease of 1.6 per cent in export value.
The export value of farming, forestry and aquatic products gained a year-on-year increase of 14.7 per cent, to US$20.45 billion, in the first seven months of this year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
