Meta removes over five million scams on Vietnamese pages amid content crackdown

HÀ NỘI — Meta removed more than five million scam-related posts and listings in Việt Nam in the first half of 2025, as the company steps up efforts to curb online fraud across its platforms.

The company said it took action against nearly 12 million scam-linked accounts on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp globally during the period. About 20 per cent of reported scams involved compromised accounts, but strengthened security measures helped cut such cases by 48 per cent on Facebook and 41 per cent on Instagram in the second quarter.

In Việt Nam, Meta said it removed more than 5.4 million pieces of violating content on Facebook and 14,000 on Instagram, with most detected proactively before users reported them.

More than 116,000 Facebook accounts and 28,000 Instagram accounts were suspended, while Facebook Marketplace saw over 444,000 fraudulent listings taken down.

Meta also removed over 18 million scam-related advertisements, with more than 92 per cent detected automatically.

The company said it is investing heavily in safety systems, including advanced automated detection tools and technologies to prevent fake accounts.

Meta employs more than 40,000 people working in safety and security, and has invested over US$30 billion in user protection systems over the past decade.

“Meta remains committed to protecting Vietnamese users amid increasingly sophisticated online scams. We continuously invest in people, technology and automated detection systems to identify and prevent fraudulent activities in a timely manner,” said Khôi Lê, Meta’s Country Director for Việt Nam.

Meta said it will continue to expand cooperation with Government agencies, social organisations and businesses to raise awareness and improve prevention of online fraud. — BIZHUB/VNS
