CẦN THƠ—The Cần Thơ City tax department is stepping up digital transformation efforts, focusing on the expansion of the eTax Mobile application and electronic invoices as part of a broader push to modernise tax administration and improve the regime.
It said the city has made notable progress in standardising taxpayer data, with more than 99 per cent of personal tax identification records reviewed and around 59 per cent fully synchronised with personal identification numbers.
Through data integration with business registration authorities, all newly established enterprises are now granted tax identification numbers on the day of registration.
Electronic invoice adoption has also continued to expand strongly across the city.
In just the first quarter of 2026, some 90.1 million e-invoices were issued in the city.
More than 7,100 businesses have registered for use of electronic invoices generated from cash registers, accounting for 96 per cent of all eligible ones.
As part of its digital transformation roadmap, the eTax Mobile application has been identified as a core platform enabling individuals and household businesses to fulfil tax obligations anytime and anywhere.
More than 73,300 taxpayers in the city have installed it, while the usage rate among household businesses has exceeded 70 per cent.
The system is currently connected with 30 commercial banks, allowing taxpayers to conduct transactions online more conveniently.
A standout example in the implementation process is Tax Unit No. 4, which leads the city in eTax Mobile adoption, with 99.47 per cent of taxpayers in the area already having accounts on the platform.
Phạm Thành Nhân, head of the unit, said the outstanding results were achieved through a hands-on support approach, including a series of direct dialogue conferences held in wards and communes.
At these support sessions, Youth Union members and specialised teams directly guided taxpayers through each step of installing, registering and using functions on the application, including tax obligation lookups and electronic tax payments.
The combination of face-to-face communication and social media outreach through platforms such as Facebook and Zalo has helped gradually change public habits and significantly reduce the number of taxpayers visiting tax offices in person.
According to Phan Tiến Lân, tax offices are now aiming to apply Big Data and artificial intelligence technologies for data analysis and risk management to improve operational efficiency and taxpayer services.
Since the beginning of 2026, they have proactively introduced a digital transformation plan to comprehensively modernise tax administration activities.
The plan prioritises the application of information technology in all management stages, including the digitalisation of all administrative records and procedures and ensuring all tax applications operate entirely in a digital environment.
“Cần Thơ’s tax sector will ensure that 100 per cent of tax applications are integrated and operated in the digital environment, 100 per cent of administrative records and settlement results are digitalised, and more than 90 per cent of residents and businesses are satisfied with online public services,” Lân said.
The city will continue to implement key tasks under its 2026 digital transformation programme, contributing to a more transparent and business-friendly tax environment. — BIZHUB
