HÀ NỘI — Data security poses a major challenge for Vietnamese businesses as they accelerate the adoption of AI and upgrade their technological infrastructure, according to a survey of tech firm Synology.

According to the survey, 91 per cent of respondents consider AI-supporting infrastructure to be crucial for enhancing productivity and operational efficiency. However, the implementation process faces several hurdles, ranging from information security and data quality to investment costs.

The survey indicates that 56.7 per cent of participants in Việt Nam identify data security and privacy as the primary challenges when adopting AI. Other difficulties cited include issues with data quality, information accessibility, and implementation costs.

Notably, 97.6 per cent of respondents said that their businesses have already implemented data protection tools. However, only 19.1 per cent are confident that their businesses could recover quickly from a ransomware attack while successfully safeguarding their backed-up data.

The discrepancy between these two figures indicates that having security tools in place does not necessarily equate to the ability to rapidly restore operations following an incident. According to the report, beyond preventive measures, businesses must also focus on protecting backups and developing data recovery plans. This is a critical consideration as AI is increasingly integrated into various workflows, driving a growing need to access, process and share data.

Regarding infrastructure investment plans, approximately 75 per cent of the survey’s respondents favour using on-premises systems, or a hybrid model of combining internal infrastructure with cloud computing, to meet the data requirements for AI.

Meanwhile, 71.3 per cent of respondents consider strengthening data security a top priority when upgrading their infrastructure.

According to Synology, this trend indicates that on-premises infrastructure remains a vital component of corporate AI strategies. This model allows organisations to retain direct control over sensitive information while proactively determining how cloud services are integrated into their operations.

Synology has identified three key investment priorities for businesses: secure and easy-to-manage data infrastructure, reliable backups and recovery systems to protect against cyber threats, and the use of AI to improve productivity while keeping corporate data under control.

The Government are implementing various practical policies to support businesses in building and developing infrastructure as well as data resources as the country considers science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation as the decisive drivers of socio-economic growth according to Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW. — BIZHUB/VNS
